Ionospheric Corrections for Satellite Altimetry ? Impact on Global Mean Sea Level Trends

چکیده
Atmospheric delay corrections for satellite altimetry measurements are essential deriving highly accurate sea surface heights and reliable global mean level (GMSL) trend estimates. A commonly used method to correct ionospheric path delays the usage of GNSS-based Global Ionospheric Maps (GIM). The different orbit GNSS altimeter satellites require an adaption GIM account free electrons in Earth plasmasphere. This study shows that widely scaling approach based on International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) is not able accurately scale models. impact neglecting plasmaspheric part atmosphere strongly correlates with solar activity about 11 years. manifests itself as errors GMSL. For Jason period (2002–2021) a error 0.17 mm/year can be shown, which even larger smaller periods (e.g., 1.0 Jason-1 lifetime). application additional constant factor 0.886 reduce differences below 0.05 mm/year.

The Impact of Geophysical Corrections on Sea-Ice Freeboard Retrieved from Satellite Altimetry
Satellite altimetry is the only method to monitor global changes in sea-ice thickness and volume over decades. Such missions (e.g., ERS, Envisat, ICESat, CryoSat-2) are based on the conversion of freeboard into thickness by assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. Freeboard, the height of the ice above the water level, is therefore a crucial parameter. Freeboard is a relative quantity, computed by sub...
متن کاملSea Level Changes Along Global Coasts from Satellite Altimetry, GPS and Tide Gauge
The average global sea level was rising through the 20th century as a result of global warming [8, 9, 26]. The Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimated that between 1901 and 2010, the mean sea level rate 1.7±0.2 mm/yr and increased to 3.2±0.4 mm/yr between 1993 and 2010, and projected that in 2100 the largest increase in global average sea level ...
متن کاملTrends in UK Mean Sea Level Revisited
This paper presents estimates of rates of mean sea level (MSL) change around the UK based on a larger tide gauge data set and more accurate analysis methods than have been employed so far. The spatial variation of the trend in MSL is found to be similar to that inferred from geological information and from advanced geodetic techniques, which is a similar conclusion to that arrived at in previou...

متن کاملHybrid Decade-mean Global Sea Level
Improved global mean sea level is obtained by combining two datasets: large-scale mean sea level based on measurements of twin-satellite mission GRACE and mesoscale sea level tilt derived from the momentum balance as seen in drifter, satellite altimeter and wind data. Hybrid product reveals complex structures of main currents even after averaging over 10 years and shows their places in the larg...
